Paris 2024 Summer Olympics – Destination Louvre Museum

What’s up sports feens? We’re back with another installment of Paris destinations. This time it’s Paris 2024 Summer Olympics – Destination Louvre Museum. The city boasts several museums; but in our opinion this one is the granddaddy of them all. The Louvre is huge and packed full of historical artwork from around the world.

If you are a history buff this is the place for you. The artworks date from the 7th millennium BC to the 1850s. Did we mention that this place is huge?  Also, the Louvre was a royal residence before it was converted to a museum in 1793 during the French Revolution. I guess you would need a palace to house all those antiquities.

The collections are displayed throughout five levels of three interconnecting wings. The collection wings are named: Richelieu in honor of the chief minister of King Louis XIII; Sully chief minister of King Henry IV; and Denon the first director of the museum.

The Louvre houses one of the most famous ladies. Maybe you’ve heard of the Mona Lisa? You can check her out in the Denon wing of the museum. But if you’ve never seen her portrait before be advised that it’s on the small side. And while you’re there be sure to see the French Crown Jewels. If you’re a fan of all things Egyptian then head over to the Sully wing.

Whatever your artistic preference is you will not be disappointed. In addition to the artworks there are several restaurants, cafes, gardens, and a book and gift shop. Audio guided tours are available to help you navigate the many galleries.

Paris 2024 Summer Olympics – Destination Louvre Museum

If you plan to add the Louvre to your Paris 2024 Olympics itinerary don’t expect to see everything  in one visit. You could spend a week visiting the museum and still not see everything. In addition, the Louvre is always closed on Tuesdays. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or on site under the Pyramid.

Records may be broken and history may be made at the 2024 Paris Olympics. And you may even have the pleasure of witnessing it all. But, if you aren’t that lucky, then the Louvre will be there for you to explore. Au revoir!
