Therefore, they are wishing to compete in their extremely tough division that includes the Bluejays, Orioles, Rays and the Yankees; (who already have a dominant 10 wins for the 24’ season). The Boston Red Sox have agreed to an extension with top 100 mlb prospect Ceddanne Rafaela. It’s an 8 year agreement covering the 2024-2031 seasons with a team option for 2032.
Tyler Milliken is among those in the Boston region that are able to confirm with their sources that the extension was in fact a done deal. He also provides intel into the financials regarding this contract. Tyler works as an Associate Producer for 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston. He reports,
“Reports that Ceddanne Rafaela’s 8-year, $50 MM extension is official. It includes a team option for 2032 worth $16 MM with a $4 MM buyout. There are also escalators for 2030-2032 based on accolades. All-Star selections and/or MVP votes.”

“The Red Sox plan to platoon at second and short. Romy Gonzalez and David Hamilton will mostly split time at short with Pablo Reyes and Emmanuel Valdez splitting time at second. Ceddanne Rafaela will see time at 2B/SS also. Vaughn Grissom will be mostly at 2B but gets reps at SS.”
Nice. Additionally, Keith Law of the Athletic says that Rafaela has a chance to be the most valuable outfield defender in baseball. Therefore, this could prove to be a good move for the Sox.
