Long-time Ram Aaron Donald Announced His Retirement

Long-time Ram Aaron Donald Announced His Retirement

The announcement came by way of his social media account (X formerly Twitter). To which Kyler Murray said, “THANK GOD.” It’s no wonder the Cardinals QB breathed a sigh of relief as long-time Ram Aaron Donald announced his retirement. Donald has been nothing but dominant throughout his ten year NFL career all of which was with the Rams. It started with being drafted by the Rams in 2014 when the team was still based in St. Louis. He won Defensive Rookie of the Year and totaled 9 sacks and 45 tackles in a 16 game season.

But the accomplishments didn’t stop there. Donald won NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2017, 2018, and 2020. And he regularly appeared on the NFL Top 100 Players just about every season. In addition, along with his teammates, he won Super Bowl LVI and was a ten-time Pro Bowl selection. Incredibly, he earned first-team All Pro honors eight times and a spot on the Pro Football Hame of Fame NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. I believe his football legacy leaves no doubt that he himself will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

In his retirement statement Donald thanked all the people in his life. Along with the cities of St. Louis and Los Angeles. He also stated:

“Throughout my career, I have given my everything to football both mentally and physically — 365 days a year was dedicated to becoming the best possible player I could be. I respected this game like no other. And I’m blessed to be able to conclude my NFL career with the same franchise that drafted me. Not many people get drafted to a team, win a World Championship with that team and retire with that team. I do not, and will not, take that for granted.”

The team posted a statement on their website from Rams Owner/Chairman E. Stanley Kroenke:

“We are so grateful for Aaron’s dedication to greatness and for leading our franchise on and off the field for the past decade. “He has left his mark on generations of football fans. And his accomplishments, coupled with his work ethic and passion, continue to inspire his teammates, coaches and athletes across the globe. It is a privilege to have witnessed one of the greatest players of all time. And we are proud that Aaron Donald will forever be part of NFL history as a member of the Rams.”

Donald says he’s not sure what the future holds for him but he’s looking forward to spending time with his wife and children. Congratulations on a stellar career and enjoy your retirement, you’ve earned it Mr. Aaron Donald.
