Who is the lucky “normal” Japanese lady who won Shohei’s heart? Well, wonder no more. LA Dodger Shohei Ohtani reveals his wife Mamiko Tanaka in a pic before heading off to play in the MLB Seoul Series against the San Diego Padres.
However, his fans kind of beat Shohei to the punch. His fandom of sleuths got busy as soon as his marriage announcement dropped. After putting numerous clues and pieces of the puzzle together, Ohtani fans felt strongly that he must of married former basketball player, Mamiko Tanaka.
There had been claims of sightings of her at Dodgers facilities. Yet, another piece of evidence fell into place once Shohei admitted that his wife is two years younger than him. Is the math mathing in Ohtani’s wife’s case? It sure is.
Mamiko Tanaka was born on December 11, 1996. Which would currently make her 27 years old. Two years younger than her husband, Ohtani.
That’s some great detective work by fans. Some really need to join a secret service agency with those skills. However, their hard work is now officially confirmed, Mamiko is the wifey.
In the photo that Ohtani posted in his Instagram stories, Shohei and his wife can be seen right smack in the middle. Smiling and dressed alike. They both wear Nike fits with New Balance shoes (a nice touch since Ohtani is a representative and face of the shoe brand).

Furthermore, platform Essentially Sports did a little digging of their own in order to find out some intel regarding Mamiko’s basketball playing days. ES reports,
Tanaka is a former basketball player. She played as a center for Waseeda University, Tokyo Seitoku University, and the Fujitsu Red Wave from 2019 to 2023. Tanaka’s talent was good enough for her to try out for Japan’s National team in August 2021. She has played in big tournaments like the Universiade and has shown her abilities on an international stage.
However, Tanaka chose to step away from basketball in 2023.
With Shohei and Mamiko both being athletically inclined there’s no wonder why they fell for each other. Plus, those future Ohtani babies are going to be tall and genetically BLESSED. Sure, there are teams right now that would like Dibs.
Nevertheless, word on the street is that Tanaka is also extremely funny with a great personality. Ohtani can be quite the jokester himself; therefore, this is truly a match made in heaven. Therefore, congratulations again to the Ohtanis and we can’t wait to see more happy moments in the future.
