News And Notes Of 2024 NFL Free Agency

To say a lot of action has been going down in the NFL is a serious understatement. There have been too many transactions to document them all. Therefore, below are some of the news and notes of the 2024 NFL free agency period. The new league year starts today so all the deals that have been agreed to can now be finalized. Some teams focused on re-signing their own players such as the Buffalo Bills and the Indianapolis Colts. Other teams were busy making lots of moves like the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles. Jerry Jones said that the Dallas Cowboys would be, “all in.” However, they only have re-signed LS Trent Sieg.

The Green Bay Packers landed highly sought after Safety Xavier McKinney from the Giants. He started his career with the Giants and has spent four seasons there. Now he is signing a four year deal with Packers worth $68 million including $25 million in the first year per Ian Rapoport. And after the Packers cut long-time veteran Aaron Jones, he was scooped up by the division rival Minnesota Vikings. He agreed to a one-year $7 million deal per Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. And speaking of the Vikings they also signed QB Sam Darnold. He is signing a one-year contract that includes $8.75 million guaranteed and has a max value of $10 million per Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

Here are some other nuggets from various teams’ transactions:

Marcus Mariota – Signing a one-year, $6 million contract worth up to $10 million with incentives, per Tom Pelissero

D’Andre Swift – Agreed to 3-year, $24 million deal with the Chicago Bears, per Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport

Graham Glasgow – Agreed to three-year, $20 million extension with $9.5 million in guarantees keeping him with the Detroit Lions, per Mike Garafolo

News And Notes Of 2024 NFL Free Agency

The Las Vegas Raiders also landed a big fish, signing DL Christian Wilkins. Per Ian Rapoport, he is signing a four-year, $110 million contract including $84.75 million guaranteed. They also picked up Gardner Minshew on a two-year, $25 million contract including $15 million fully guaranteed. Kicker Wil Lutz fooled everyone when he agreed to terms with the Jaguars and then re-signed with the Broncos. The Jaguars did take Mac Jones from the New England Patriots in exchange for a 2024 sixth round pick. Jones, a former first round pick gets to go back to his hometown of Jacksonville, FL.
