Juan Soto Says Blake Snell Would Be Great For Yankees
Could a reunion be on the way? Outfielder Juan Soto says Blake Snell would be great for the Yankees and could be a deadly one-two starting pitcher punch with Gerrit Cole. Both Cole and Snell are Cy Young winners; with Snell winning the accolade in both the American and National League. Therefore, having two pitching studs on one team roster would definitely be appealing.
Moreover, Blake and Juan have already been teammates on the San Diego Padres. Therefore, both would know of each other’s strengths as well as flaws extremely well. So then, Soto recruiting Snell is not just for kicks; he knows what Blake can bring to the table, in order to help the Yankees bring another championship to the city, franchise and their fans.
Nevertheless, Soto feels strongly that having Snell in Yankees stripes this season would be monumental for the team. In an interview with NY Post sports journalist, Jon Heyman, Soto states,
“It would be unbelievable to have two Cy Young winners going back to back, it’d be great. [Snell’s] a great guy, a great player. Any help that we can get I would love.
He’s a great dude, he’s a great guy. He’s always right there, cheering for his teammates. He’s a funny guy, too. He’s great in the clubhouse.
I know if he’s coming over, he’s going to help the team big-time. It’s always great to have great talent on the team. I would never say no. So it’s a great fit for him, I think.”

Some high praise indeed. While Soto is majorly endorsing Blake; Heyman, still feels that a deal is still a little sketchy. However, both sides (the Yankees and Snell’s camp); haven’t completely cut each other off. Regarding a possible agreement being reached between both parties; Jon Heyman says,
Juan Soto tells NY Post Sports that Snell and the Yankees would be a ‘great fit.’ [Yet] Yankees and Blake Snell camp are talking but it’s still difficult to see a path to a deal (they spoke again Monday).
What’s the problem? Why can’t these two come together? While fans say it’s Blake’s agent, Scott Boras, Heyman believes it’s taxes. Jon goes on to reveal,
“The Yankees continue to keep the lines of communication open, which illustrates the resolve club owner Hal Steinbrenner has to win. Unfortunately, the call Monday appeared to put the sides no closer. (One Yankees person characterized the chances for a deal as extremely low). However, as long as they’re talking, we have to assume there’s a chance.
The Yankees like Snell and can afford Snell (although they obviously don’t love the tax implication). What’s more, it’s unclear how many teams remain in the market for a $30M player. The Yankees also like former Yankee Jordan Montgomery, the other top starter left on the free-agent market, but word is they prefer Snell. It’s clear though: This is a discussion in need of a breakthrough.”
