NFL Has Released List of NFL Combine Invitees
On President’s Day the NFL HBCU Combine was held. The HBCU Legacy Bowl will be played on this coming Saturday. But in the meantime, the NFL has released the complete list of the NFL Combine invitees, a total of 321 invitations were extended. The event will take place again in Indianapolis between February 26 and March 4.
College athletes from all over the country will have the opportunity to showcase their talents. And prove that they have what it takes to become an NFL player. Being evaluated by NFL Scouts is likely a nerve-wracking experience. This event could make or break their professional careers. Below is the breakdown of the invitees by position:
14 Quarterbacks
29 Running Backs
39 Wide Receivers
16 Tight Ends
70 Offensive Linemen
50 Defensive Linemen
30 Linebackers
67 Defensive Backs
6 Specialists (4 Kickers and 2 Punters)
Quarterbacks are always a hot commodity in the NFL draft. The fact that only 14 have been invited to attend means they must be the cream of the quarterback crop. For instance, the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders have the No.1 and No. 2 picks respectively.
Many draft analysts at this time are projecting both teams to draft a quarterback. Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, and J.J. McCarthy are all expected to be drafted in the first round. Some mock draft analysts are projecting that five or six quarterbacks could be first-round draft picks.
Another highly favored position is the Wide Receiver. Analysts are predicting that the 2024 class will surpass the 2023 pass catchers. Last year’s draft produced Puka Nacua, Zay Flowers, and Jordan Addison. However, the 2024 class is loaded with guys who have versatility, size, and athleticism. All the qualities you love to see in a receiver.

Offensive linemen and specialists are never considered “sexy picks.” But they are still valuable, important components of every team. What’s worse than seeing a talented quarterback getting no protection and regularly sacked? Maybe having an unreliable kicker who regularly misses field goals and extra points? Neither scenario is pleasant and is to be avoided at all cost. So it’s a good thing there are 70 offensive linemen who will be at the Combine.
Choosing draft picks is a tough job. There are so many variables that come into play when scouts are evaluating the talent. A good draft can set up a team for a nice run of success. Conversely, a bad draft can set a team back for years. Therefore, I will happily watch the scouts sweat the details of whom they will recommend for their teams.
