Aztecs Defeat FAU – Going to the National Championship!
Another day. Another nail biter. Yet, the results are the same… San Diego is here to WIN! Aztecs defeat FAU and it is a game that will live in infamy!
The Aztecs walk onto the court today already champs in the minds of everyone living in San Diego. The team is history making, and full of athletic greatness. This is the first squad to go to the Sweet 16 and the Final Four. Therefore, San Diego college basketball is doing the impossible and they are some fighters.
Their warrior mentality is a hallmark one can see at any game. For instance, today during the all out battle against the Florida Atlantic Owls; the game pendulum starts to sway in favor of FAU; with them pulling away with a bit of a lead. However, the Aztecs soldiers said not so fast, hold this beer; and they start firing on all cylinders during the 2nd.
This is familiar ground for the big boys of SDSU. Just last week, they rally against Alabama beating them 71-64. They have that DAWG in them and Alabama sure feels the bite.
Nevertheless, with just minutes to play against the Owls, the Aztecs mount yet another all out attack. They’re down. But strike. With just 3:14 remaining in the game they tie it up (at one point they were down 14); 65 a piece before the Owls retain a 2 point advantage.
Is it over? Is that it? No, not even close.
The gut wrencher of a game continues as with just 57 seconds to go Florida Atlantic leads by a single point. It’s too close to call. Both sides are playing lights out on the court.
Then the Owls go up again. It looks like there might be a little breathing room for Florida. But, the Aztecs immediately respond, coming right back! They will not go without a fight, this is their time; this is their year.

With just 17 seconds left the score is once again tied! It is 71-70 in favor of the Owls. You can not predict this stuff. You can’t write it. Definitely a game that just leaves you on the edge of your seat.
Speaking of unpredictable… when the last second ticks off the clock… the AZTECS WIN! Yes, another amazing comeback during the NCAA Tournament. AND one name will forever etch in the minds of one and all… Lamont Butler.
Butler with just seconds hits a buzzer beater winning the game and sending his team to the National Championships for the very first time. This is SPORTS ladies and gentlemen. This is BASKETBALL. And San Diego is on a mission to show the world that they the kings of March Madness. LET’S GO!
