Ravens Struck Gold With A Win Over the 49ers
It was the match up we were all waiting for between the top AFC and NFC teams. Despite the Ravens going three and out to open the game, they struck gold with a win over the 49ers. On the other hand, the 49ers had an interception, a safety, and a field goal. Then the Ravens got on the board with a field goal. It was a strange first quarter to say the least.
The 49ers started the second quarter moving the ball nicely. But then Purdy’s pass was deflected and intercepted by the Ravens. They marched 53 yards and scored a touchdown. Purdy was intercepted again by the Ravens. And a 15 yard chop block penalty was called on the 49ers giving the Ravens good field position. It was Kyle Hamilton who was both the interceptor and victim of the penalty. The Ravens came away with a 41 yard field goal.
Christian McCaffrey was obviously not happy with the three interceptions. He ran angry on the next drive picking up 50 yards rushing. His next run was a tough nine yards for the touchdown. The Ravens had the last possession of the second quarter. The amount of scrambling and making plays by Lamar Jackson was impressive. He got his team down the field but came away with a field goal making the score 16-12.
Things didn’t improve for the 49ers to start the third quarter. They punted, the Ravens scored a touchdown. They were intercepted, and the Ravens scored a touchdown. The 49ers had to punt again. Lamar Jackson once again was able to avoid the rush, avoid being sacked and throw the ball on the run. As Troy Aikman said, “he’s putting on a show tonight.”

The 49ers defense stopped them on the 1 yard line. Justin Tucker kicked the 24 yard field goal. At that point they had scored on seven possessions in a row. The 49ers got the ball back and moved it down field. But an offensive holding penalty killed the momentum. They turned the ball over on downs but the Ravens couldn’t capitalize.
Brock Purdy was injured on the next drive and was replaced by Sam Darnold. He kept the drive going and connected with Ronnie Bell for a 12 yard touchdown. Darnold remained in the game on the next drive. He scrambled for nine yards and the rest of the plays were passes. They got to the 1 yard line and he was sacked back to the 18 yard line. On 4th down he threw an interception. And that was the game, Ravens won 33-19.
