76ers Unveil Allen Iverson Statue on Legends Walk; Outside Practice Facility
We’re talking about PRACTICE. Yes, outside their practice and training facility; Philadelphia is adding another one of their greats to the infamous Legends Walk. In an emotional ceremony the 76ers unveil the Allen Iverson Statue honoring his prolific career that spanned over a decade.
To fully understand the impact of Allen Iverson in the NBA. You just had to be there and witness his era. Every game Allen did something that just made your jaw drop.
Whether it was an insane dunk. A behind the back pass to a fellow teammate. Or a spin move evading a defender. Iverson put on a show and clinic, day in and day out. Literally, a whole generation of kids grew up trying to immolate the guy on blacktops across the nation; most likely almost breaking their ankles in the process.
Nevertheless, even though he never won a championship; many basketball fans still hold him in high regard. Iverson played in the national basketball association for 14 seasons and was chosen as an All Star for 11 of them. He won the NBA MVP in 2001 after being drafted in 1996 as the first round overall pick.
He also was the Rookie of the Year in 1997. And would go one to be the NBA Scoring Champion four times. In 1999, 2001, 2002 (yay back to back); as well as in 2005.
Therefore, to celebrate his enduring legacy, the Philadelphia 76ers felt that a statue was definitely in order. Plans were made and a ceremony set up.
While some fans immediately started to panic at the unveiling due to the size of the statue. It is important to note that Iverson was not slighted in anyway. All the 76ers statues are on the diminutive side. Therefore, Allen’s monument falls in perfectly with the design aesthetic as all the others.
Moreover, Iverson is in good company, joining statues representing:
- Moses Malone
- Billy Cunningham
- Julius Erving
- Wilt Chamberlain
- Maurice Cheeks
- Charles Barkley
- Bobby Jones

Nonetheless, Allen Iverson got a bit choked up about the unveiling. But managed to say,
“I just want y’all to know how much I appreciate y’all. I thank everybody for coming out and thank everybody playing a part in this and making this dream come true.”
