2026 Masters Tournament Preview—The 90th Anniversary
Finally… the Masters Tournament is here. It is going to be a good one as weather is beautiful, just wonderful conditions. Furthermore, Tom Watson, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player will be serving as this year’s Honorary Starters. Also, Scottie Scheffler is trying to earn his 3rd green jacket in his 7th Masters appearance this year. Moreover, defending champion Rory McIlroy is set to open the tourney with a 5-under 67, currently tied for the lead. Therefore, let’s quickly get into our brief 2026 Masters Tournament preview.
The 2026 Masters Tournament is the 90th edition of the Masters Tournament and the first of the four men’s major golf championships held in 2026. Since 1934, the Masters Tournament has been home to some of golf’s greatest moments. Amidst blooming azaleas, towering pines and flowering dogwoods, the first full week of April ushers in a stage unique to golf and to sport. Over four days and 72 holes, the smallest field in major championship golf competes for a chance to capture the Green Jacket and a place in Masters history.
What are some aspects as well as golfers to keep an eye on? Well, for one, Fred Couples (the 1992 champion) will make his 41st Masters start. Just three years ago (in 2023), Fred Couples made history becoming the oldest to make the cut at the Masters at age 63. He believes he can break his own record. Moreover, Couples told the media, “I will never embarrass myself or Augusta, so I plan on doing well this week.” Therefore, best wishes to Fred during this tourney.
Also, Kurt Kitayama returns for his 3rd start at The Masters. He is already trending in 2026 with a runner-up at the Genesis Invitational, closing with stellar final-round 64. A pure ball striker with the game to make a move at Augusta.
Additionally, Jason Day makes his 15th start at The Masters. The former World No. 1 has 5 top-10 finishes here, including a runner-up in 2011. He knows exactly what it takes to contend at Augusta.

Then, there is also Harry Hall and Chris Gotterup. Harry Hall makes his debut at The Masters after a strong start to 2026, including a T-6 at the Sony Open and a T-9 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. One of the game’s best putters, he recently visited Bridgestone HQ in Covington, Georgia to dial in his spin numbers with the R&D team.
Chris Gotterup makes his first start at The Masters and enters as one of the hottest players in the world. He is ranked 11th in the OWGR and has already picked up wins this season at the Waste Management Phoenix Open and Sony Open. Among the longest hitters on TOUR, he brings plenty of firepower to Augusta.
Nice! Well, everyone as you can see this tournament is going to be amazing. So kick back with an Arnold Palmer or white wine paired with a pimento cheese sandwich or chicken biscuit. The Masters have arrived.
