The Summer Games is rolling into its final full days of competition and events. Therefore, it is time for a quick 2024 Olympic Medal Count Update. Since half the fun of this international sporting extravaganza is to religiously check the standings.
Who is on top? Who is going to have bragging rights for that day or once the Games come to a conclusion? Also, who has the most gold medals?
Yes, any medal is nice, but being the absolute best means coming in first and standing at the very top of the podium. So then, let’s start there. After a very sluggish and rough start; this weekend American athletes finally got over the hump; and started really mining for gold. It took all the way till day nine of the Paris Olympics, but the USA now ties China with 19 gold medals. China also has 15 silvers and 11 bronze.
Moreover, the home country, France, has also been on fire. French athletes have accumulated 12 gold medals, 14 silvers and 18 bronze medals thus far. A very impressive home showing.

Nevertheless, which countries are leading the pack? There are athletes from the territories of 206 National Olympic Committees as well as the IOC Refugee Olympic Team (EOR) that are taking part of the Olympic Paris Games. The top 8 countries in terms of medaling are the: United States of America, China, France, Australia; Great Britain, South Korea, Japan and Italy.
Outside of gold medals, the United States has led the medal count from the start. America now has 71 medals in total. 19 gold medals, 26 are silver and 26 are bronze medals. But here’s how the top eight countries are looking (as of August 4):

China: 45 medals
France: 44 medals
Australia: 31
Great Britain: 37
South Korea: 24

Italy: 22
As of right now, it does not seem like anyone will be able to challenge Team USA with the medal count. Additionally, with plenty of events left to go with sports such as basketball, gymnastics as well as track and field. The USA could very well win the gold medal battle.
