2024 MLB Home Run Derby

2024 MLB Home Run Derby: Our Complete Action Recap!

And we have a winner! The 2024 MLB Home Run Derby featured some of most electric hitters of the game. Featuring players from the Phillies, Orioles, Rangers, Guardians, Dodgers and more.

This year’s batting order is based on who hit the most home runs so far during the season. Going from least to the greatest amount. So then, the order looks like this:

1. ALEC BOHM 11
2. BOBBY WITT JR. 16

3. ADOLIS GARCIA 17
4. TEOSCAR HERNANDEZ 19

5. PETE ALONSO 19
6. JOSÉ RAMÍREZ 23
7. MARCELL OZUNA 26
8. GUNNAR HENDERSON 28

Alec Bohm was first up. By the halfway mark Bohm had 7 bombs. But really found his groove ending his 3 minutes with 20 homers; then adds one more in extra time.

Bobby Witt Jr. steps up and is exhilarating to watch. Finishes with 16 home runs after 3 minutes. And would ultimately have 20 homers. Next, Adolis Garcia grabs a bat and gets to work at the plate. Effortlessly hits 8 homers before being halfway through his time limit. Ending with 18.

The Dodgers Teoscar Hernandez turns up the heat and ends his appearance with 19 home runs! Then, two time derby champ Pete Alonso unfortunately didn’t have the same magic that he has had in the past. And finishes with 12 homers.

The Cleveland Guardians’ Jose Ramirez got the crowd roaring. Tying Bohm’s performance with 21 home runs of his own. Next up, the Atlanta Braves’ Marcell Ozuna put up a valiant effort, but ultimately falls slightly short. Walking away with 16 homers even with the bonus.

Last up is Baltimore Orioles star Gunnar Henderson with his custom Scooby Doo bat. Gunnar got into a rhythm at one point. But unfortunately “thanks to those meddling kids” he couldn’t seem to hit enough bombs to clear the fence as time goes on. Gunnar would finish with 12 homers. This means that Alec Bohm, Teoscar Hernandez, Jose Ramirez and Bobby Witt Jr. would move on to the next level of competition.

2024 Home Run Derby: Our Complete Action Recap!

The action picks up even more in the second round. Bobby Witt Jr. kicks things off and he immediately puts pressure on his opponents. Knocking out 17. The Guardians Jose Ramirez smashes 12 homers sending Bobby to the Finals.

In the last pairing in the semifinals. It is Bohm versus Hernandez. Phillies going against Dodgers. Hernandez gets off to a very rough start and is able to improve his swing thanks to a little advice from Vladdy (last year’s derby winner and a player from the Bluejays). Ending with 14 home runs.

Then Alec Bohm comes back to the plate after sitting for an hour and 25 minutes. So obviously Alec is a little cold at first but then HEATS UP! Bohm ends up tying with Hernandez so now we got ourselves an old fashioned swing off.

Teoscar is able to tack on two, bringing his homer total to 16. The pressure is on. It is Bohm’s turn to bat. Bohm makes it interesting adding one home run with another opportunity to tie. But pops it up a bit too much giving Hernandez the win.

The Final

The Final is set. Bobby versus Teoscar. Royals against the Dodgers. Hernandez first half of his 2 minute time limit wasn’t the best. But in the second half he blasts 5 homers out of 6 pitches! With bonuses he finishes with 14 home runs.

Now Witt goes back to work; his final shot at derby glory. Bobby hits dinger after dinger. Amassing 13! On his last opportunity, down two strikes; he BLASTS the ball all the way to the fence. The whole audience holds their breath. Barely missing on going out… Hernandez becomes the winner!

Even on replay, you notice how narrowly Bobby Witt Jr. came to tying things up. The ball literally hit the fence. Below the yellow line.

Nevertheless, accolades are in order. Congratulations to Teoscar. He is the new king of the derby. Hoist that trophy up high!
