Will Jason Kelce Be The Next King Of Late Night Television?

Back in the day there was Johnny Carson, David Letterman, Jay Leno, and Arsenio Hall. Today we he Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and Seth Meyers. These guys have been kings of the late night television shows. Now we have a new contender looking to enter into the ring. Newly retired and former center for the Philadelphia Eagles would like to give it a try. So will Jason Kelce be the next king of late night television?

Kelce will be the host of a limited-run wee-hours program on ESPN. Ironically, he made his announcement about the new show on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday night. The show will be called “They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce” on ESPN. The one-hour show will tape on five straight Friday nights beginning Jan. 3. Coinciding with the last week of the NFL’s regular season and the playoffs.

Just like other late night shows, Kelce’s show will be filmed in front of a live audience from Union Transfer in Philadelphia. The first four episodes will air at 1 a.m. ET starting Jan. 4 with the final episode at 1:30 on Feb. 1. Kelce shared his reason for wanting to do the show: “I loved late-night shows. I’ve always loved them. I remember sleepovers watching Conan O’Brien with my friends,” Kelce said on Kimmel’s show. “We’re going to have a bunch of guys up there: legends of the game, friends that I played with, coaches, celebrities.”  And in the tradition of late night talk shows, Kelce will have his own band. Philadelphia-based band Snacktime will provide the show’s music.

Kelce is already a familiar figure on ESPN post retirement. He’s in the first year of a multiyear agreement with ESPN. He appears on “Monday Night Countdown” and provides halftime and postgame analysis. Kelce also participated in last year’s NFL Broadcasting and Media Workshop and was highly sought after by multiple networks. After a successful 13 year career with the Philadelphia Eagles this show will keep him connected to the city. However, since it is a limited-run show it remains to be seen what ESPN will do going forward.

Besides his television career, he and his brother have a popular podcast called “New Heights.” In August 2024 Jason and Travis inked a deal with Amazon’s Wondery that is reportedly worth more than $100 million over three years. So for now it looks like the sky is the limit for Jason.
